Have you completed your Master's degree in an economics course with outstanding results, have a connection to Central and South America and now you would like to do your doctorate? Then this cooperative doctoral program may be just the right thing for you.

The doctorado en ciencias empresariales y sociales is a doctoral program established at the Universidad de Ciencias Empresariales y Sociales (UCES). It was accredited in December 2017 by the Argentinean accreditation agency CONEAU as a cooperative doctoral program with Mainz University of Applied Sciences. CONEAU has co-opted professors from the School of Business at Mainz University of Applied Sciences in their function as lecturers, advisors and examiners. A professor from Mainz University of Applied Sciences is a member of the doctoral committee (comisión del doctorado) of UCES.

The doctoral program is designed as a part-time degree program and, in the first two years, it includes the development of the research concept and attendance of seminars on research theory and methodology, as well as on the main topics of the planned research. The second phase is also planned for two years and will be devoted exclusively to conducting research and writing the dissertation (tesis).

The dissertation can be written in Spanish, English or Portuguese. A good knowledge of Spanish is required, as some seminars will be held in Spanish during the first two years. The seminars take place either online or as classroom sessions in Mainz. Academic achievements from the master's degree program can be credited towards your studies. Graduates of the Mainz master's degree programs in International Business (MA.AA and MA.IB) can therefore attend all remaining seminars online.

Depending on the research topic, the research will be supervised by professors from Mainz University of Applied Sciences or UCES. The defense (disputation) of the thesis will take place before a three-member examination board in Buenos Aires.

The title of Doctor en ciencias empresariales y sociales is awarded by UCES. The diploma certificate indicates the cooperation with Mainz University of Applied Sciences. In Germany, the form this title takes is "Dr. (UCES, Buenos Aires)". Due to a lack of an equivalence agreement between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Argentina, it is not possible to enter the title in your German identity card under current law.
