In October, we had the honor of welcoming two outstanding experts from the media world to our department. Prof. Dr. Becker, a fixture in our department since 2001 and instrumental in the further development of business informatics, as well as Steffen Haug, whose impressive career spans roles from correspondent in Washington to editor-in-chief of Spiegel TV. In their presentation, they provided fascinating insights into current developments in the media landscape and the unique challenges facing television today.

The evening concluded in a relaxed atmosphere with sparkling wine and pretzels and featured many stimulating conversations. We thank all participants for this successful evening!

We held several board meetings throughout the year. Many new faces have joined the board, bringing not only fresh perspectives to the association but also helping to plan additional exciting activities for our members. One of these meetings took place at the Olivenbaum in Mainz; the photo on the right was taken that day and features the current board and our former chairwoman, Claudia Huberti.

In May of this year, the sixth Career Day was held at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. Thanks to the many helping hands, our association was also able to be represented—a big thank you to everyone involved. It was great to talk with interested students about future projects. We’re also excited to see how many new faces will join us in the coming weeks.

The year 2024 begins with a change in our association’s chairperson. After leading our Friends of the Department of Economics for 11 years with great dedication, Claudia Huberti is now passing the baton to Prof. Dr. Britta Rathje. We look forward to all the new things to come and thank Claudia from the bottom of our hearts for her dedication, passion, and excellent leadership of the association.
