On November 22, 2014, the Department of Economics at Mainz University of Applied Sciences held its graduation ceremony at the Phönixhalle. More than 600 graduates received their degrees during the 2013–2014 academic year. During the ceremony, the Kurt Dörr Prize, awarded by the Business Forum for exceptional dedication to the School of Business, was once again presented. This year, the award went to staff members Ariane Göbel, Ulla Hück, Sabine Klebig, and the academic director of the Faculty of Economics’ “International Office,” Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schüle.
With great passion and personal dedication, these staff members support all students who wish to gain international experience as part of their studies. This includes both students from the Department of Economics who want to spend part of their studies abroad, as well as all students coming from abroad who wish to study at the Department of Economics.Contacts with partner universities are established and maintained by the International Office. The Department of Economics is proud of its diverse international contacts and benefits greatly from them. For this multifaceted scope of work at the International Office, not only a high level of personal commitment but also sensitivity toward other cultures is essential.
In recognition of this, the Economics Forum awarded this year’s Kurt Dörr Prize to all members of the International Office. On this occasion, the early days of the office—first under Prof. Dr. Monika Winkler, then under Prof. Dr. Daniel Porath—were also explicitly acknowledged.
In addition to the presentation of the Kurt Dörr Prize, there was another honor this year. Christian Nagel, a former student in the department, made an exceptional contribution during his time as a student. From the very beginning of his studies, he served as president of the Student Parliament. He also served as a student representative on various university committees, including the Departmental Council, the Senate, the University Council, the Quality Management Project Group, and the Administrative Board of the Student Services Organization. The Economics Forum extends its heartfelt thanks to all award recipients for their dedication and wishes them continued success in their endeavors.
