Student Reporting Process
Under 199a of the German Social Security Code Volume V (SGB), there is a mutual reporting obligation regarding health insurance between health insurance providers and institutions of higher education.
Reporting obligations of the health insurance providers
M10: Insurance status (compulsory or exempted)
M11: Start of insurance after switching health insurance providers
M12: Delay in payment of contributions
M13: Settlement of contributions in arrears
Reporting obligations of the universities of applied sciences
M20: Start of studies including start of semester and day of enrollment
M30: End of studies with end of semester and day of exmatriculation/termination
Notifications from health insurance providers in paper form cannot be accepted. All notifications have to be provided digitally.
For the immatriculation, we require an electronic notification M10 of your insurance status by your public health insurance provider. Please contact your health insurance provider so they can send the required notification M10 to us electronically. Information for applicants with private health insurance
You will need to contact any public health insurance provider, and they will then notify us electronically of the existence of your private insurance coverage. Please quote the sender number of Mainz University of Applied Sciences for this purpose: H0001596.
Information specifically for citizens of EU countries
If you are from an EU country and have a European Health Insurance Card, you do not need to take out additional insurance in Germany. You just need to present your European Health Insurance Card to a German public health insurance provider of your choice, and they will issue a digital confirmation of your exemption from compulsory insurance. Information specifically for citizens of countries that have a social security agreement with Germany (such as Switzerland and Turkey)
If you have public health insurance in your home country, ask your insurance company for a form certifying your health insurance coverage abroad. The forms have different names depending on the country you are from, such as E-111, AT 11, ATN11 or BH6. You then need to present the form to a German public health insurance company of your choice, and they will issue a digital confirmation M10 of your exemption from compulsory insurance.Please quote the sender number of Mainz University of Applied Sciences for this purpose: H0001596.
If you change health insurance providers, we require electronic notification M11 of the change in health insurance provider from your new health insurance provider. Students with private health insurance do not need to take any action.
