A Look into the Future of Streaming and Media Libraries
The Mainz Digital Congress (MADKON) took place for the sixth time on Friday, December 8, 2023. For the first time, the congress was jointly organized by Mainz University of Applied Sciences and IT Klub Mainz & Rheinhessen e.V. Following the key topics of recent years—including digital reality, digital sustainability, and digital intelligence—MADKON23 #digitalstreaming shed light on current developments and future prospects in digital streaming and media libraries. A total of around 360 representatives from politics, business, and academia took advantage of the opportunity for professional exchange. Approximately 150 people were present in person at the LUX Pavilion at Mainz University of Applied Sciences; another 210 or so participants joined virtually via the livestream.
MADKON23 featured three thematic tracks dedicated to public media (ARD, WDR, ZDF), service providers (including all eyes on screens and TeraVolt), and European developments (including Euro 2024 and the European Broadcasting Union). Highlights included presentations on the importance of live streaming in sports and corporate communications, innovative measurement systems for tracking TV and video usage, and insights into the new ARD/ZDF streaming network.
Experts from television broadcasters, the advertising industry, and service providers contributed their experiences and insights to a lively discussion. Student-founded startups (including phont.ai) were also presented. The conference provided an ideal platform for exchanging ideas, networking, and promoting innovation in this dynamic sector of the digital media world.
Prof. Dr. Sven Pagel, head of the WIMM research group at Mainz University of Applied Sciences and a member of the IT Klub board, expressed great satisfaction: “We are delighted that we were able to attract so many interested participants and put together an exciting program featuring regional, national, and international speakers!”
The feedback from participants was also consistently positive, underscoring the relevance and timeliness of the topics covered. MADKON has established itself as a major forum for discussing future developments and challenges in the field of digitalization. Speaker Christian Nienaber, CCO of all eyes on screens, was thrilled by the lively interest and the inspiring questions from the audience: “Great event, fantastic location, very well organized, a highly engaged audience, and lots of questions afterward—it’s just a lot of fun!”
Mainz University of Applied Sciences and the IT Klub Mainz & Rheinhessen e.V. would like to thank DCCS, the State Capital of Mainz, and Accso for their financial support.
