From technical research to the optimization of work processes—the internship year at Mainz University of Applied Sciences offered a variety of tasks and valuable hands-on experience.

As part of a one-year internship at Mainz University of Applied Sciences, Antonio Berk gained comprehensive insights into the operations of a university and worked independently on various projects. His main responsibilities included researching a suitable eye-tracking laptop, conducting various online research tasks, and optimizing the camera loan system. The internship combined technical challenges with organizational tasks and provided important practical experience for his future career.

Hands-On Work Behind the Scenes

An internship at the university involves much more than the typical office routine. Over the course of the year, he was able to familiarize himself with different departments and independently oversee various projects. The focus was on working independently, teamwork, and developing practical solutions. The diverse tasks demonstrated how closely organization, technology, and research work together in everyday university life.

Research for an Eye-Tracking Laptop

One focus of the internship was researching a suitable laptop for eye-tracking applications. To this end, various devices were compared in terms of their technical specifications, performance, and compatibility. The goal was to establish a solid basis for decision-making regarding future research and teaching projects.

The project required an in-depth examination of current hardware as well as the evaluation of various models based on defined criteria. This not only deepened technical knowledge but also highlighted the importance of thorough research for making well-informed decisions.

Online Research as the Foundation for Projects

In addition to technical issues, various online research tasks were part of the daily routine during the internship. Information was gathered from different sources, critically evaluated, and presented in a clear and organized manner. The results supported various projects and served as the foundation for further work processes.

This process highlighted how important structured research and the selection of trustworthy sources are for successful project work.

Optimizing the Camera Loan System

Another project focused on optimizing the camera loan system. Existing processes were analyzed, and suggestions for improvement were developed to make the organization of the loan system more efficient and transparent.

Although this is primarily an organizational process, the project demonstrated how even small changes can make day-to-day work easier for students and staff. At the same time, the task provided an opportunity to critically examine workflows and develop practical solutions.
