DAAD-Scholarships South Africa
International Study and Training Partnership (ISAP) with Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in Cape Town, South Africa
Exchange Program for Students and Teachers as part of the DAAD ISAP Program
The DAAD-ISAP program entitled Mainz-CPUT: Partnership for sustainable and climate resilient water and traffic infrastructures strengthens the cooperation between Mainz University of Applied Sciences and Cape Peninsula University of Technology in South Africa. Building on an existing partnership, the project aims to strengthen academic exchange as well as joint teaching and research in the field of sustainable, climate resilient and future-proof water and traffic infrastructures. At CPUT, students can actively engage with these topics in lectures, laboratories, and as a research project for their bachelor's thesis. Students gain practical insights into a country facing a water deficit and experience how innovative solutions are developed under real-life conditions.

Regular exchange between students and lecturers
A central aspect of the project is the regular, reciprocal exchange of students and lecturers in order to improve international career opportunities and provide valuable intercultural experience. Particular attention is paid to water and transport infrastructures. These must be made resilient to the consequences of climate change (extreme weather events such as floods and droughts).
Advantages for students
For students from Mainz, the exchange offers valuable insights into civil engineering in South Africa, in addition to the acquisition of general intercultural skills. Similarly, students from South Africa benefit from the practical training and teaching methods in Mainz, which provide an insight into European civil engineering standards.
Further development of the collaboration
The project is also exploring possible joint research initiatives in the field of sustainable infrastructure development. Through (online) courses and exchange programs, the international visibility of the civil engineering courses at both universities will be increased.
Funded by the DAAD ISAP program
Funded by the DAAD program 'International Study and Training Partnerships (ISAP)', this cooperation creates academic synergies and develops practice-oriented solutions for sustainable infrastructure development. Together, we are promoting innovative construction practices that are ecological, economic and beneficial for society.
An important step towards a shared sustainable future
This program is an important step towards a sustainable future and offers students and teachers from both universities valuable international experience.
