Does “no problem” really mean “no problem” everywhere? And why punctuality is not binding everywhere. Whether in everyday university life, internships abroad, or working in a global context, intercultural competence is a key qualification. People from different cultural backgrounds teach and learn together, communicate, and work with each other. They all bring different life experiences, backgrounds, and expectations with them. This diversity and complexity are enriching, but they also need to be managed skillfully. This practice-oriented webinar provides an overview of the most important cultural dimensions and concrete strategies for respectful, confident, and effective interaction with others in everyday intercultural practice.

How first-generation students recognize their strengths and implement their skills* (Face-to-Face Event in German)
December 10, 2025, 2:00–5:00 p.m.

In Germany, social background still plays a significant role in determining educational paths. The likelihood of young adults choosing to pursue higher education is often linked to the educational level of their parents. Many first-generation students lack role models within their families or at universities, and accessing necessary information can be much more challenging for them. The non-profit organization ArbeiterKind.de supports prospective and current first-generation students in successfully navigating their studies. These students bring a wide range of strengths and competencies, including determination, perseverance, flexibility, and courage. The goal of this workshop is to help participants identify and leverage these strengths and competencies through biographical work, using them as resources to take charge of their own path.
