On April 18, 2026, Mainz University of Applied Sciences welcomed visitors to this year’s Information Day. More than 1,000 attendees explored the university’s academic landscape at booths set up throughout the Magistrale, in the engineering lab, during presentations in lecture halls, and in the library. Over one hundred prospective students also joined the event online. At the same time, numerous staff members and students took the opportunity to get a closer look at the work their colleagues are doing.
As in previous years, the stage program in the auditorium was a special highlight, where students and faculty from all three schools presented their current projects in informal conversations with moderator Julia Schneider. Dual studies and partnerships with external partners from the private sector featured prominently. The entire program was also live-streamed on YouTube, making it possible for those who could not attend in person to learn more about the university as well.
In her welcome address, University President Prof. Dr. Katharina Dahm emphasized the university’s distinctive atmosphere, describing it as a place that feels like home and thrives on the dedication of its staff. She highlighted core values that define the university’s profile: a strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, a high level of internationalization with around 160 partner universities worldwide, and an open, equitable academic culture distinguished in particular by a strong commitment to gender equality and an excellent balance of family and career. “A defining feature of our degree programs is their strong practical orientation. Students always understand why they are learning specific content, because it is derived directly from real-world requirements. Close contact with our students is also especially important to us: listening, exchanging ideas, and mutual learning are an integral part of everyday university life here.”
The diverse program included lectures and workshops on highly relevant topics such as climate-neutral construction and the role of AI in higher education. Portfolio consultations offered by the Interior Architecture, Time-Based Media, and Communication Design degree programs proved especially popular. In the lab, visitors had the opportunity to experience the CAVE, a unique virtual space developed specifically for the university. Drawing plenty of attention in front of the university building was the carnival float “Helau Love,” built by students. Visitors were also able to get their first glimpse of the new building, into which the Holzstraße campus will move in time for the 2026/2027 winter semester. Outside the campus building, the LUCY team guided visitors through the construction site of the future student coworking building, which is going up near the streetcar stop.
In the library, options available to visitors included connecting with students during the School of Business’s Studi Talk and joining a tour with library director Ivana Oruc to explore modern study spaces and the extensive range of specialized literature.
Information Day at Mainz University of Applied Sciences was once again a great success. With its diverse program and numerous opportunities for exchange, the event provided valuable insights into the university’s range of degree programs and projects.
