Presentation of the project AllRad of the School of Engineering at Surf 22 in Milan

Mainz University of Applied Sciences is represented by the AllRad project at the international conference SURF 2022 - the 9th symposium on pavement surface characteristics in Milan from September 12 to 14, 2022.

The importance of bicycle path maintenance for bicycle use will be presented there by project team member Mr. Carsten Mahnel. At the conference, which takes place every four years, researchers and users working internationally and focusing on traffic area pavement come together.

“The participation of Mainz University of Applied Sciences in such an international conference is the result of long-term efforts to internationalize research at Mainz University of Applied Sciences and offers the opportunity to increase the visibility of our achievements. At the same time, this participation underscores our commitment to playing a decisive role in future-shaping tasks such as the design of sustainable mobility,” states project manager Professor Rainer Hess.

About the AllRad project:
The objective of the project, which was launched in July 2020, is to identify opportunities to increase the use of bicycles in everyday life through improved bicycle path maintenance. The maintenance of bike paths, including cleaning, winter maintenance, and trimming of greenery, influences safety and usability. In the AllRad research project, a concept for improved bicycle path maintenance and information about such maintenance is being developed.

Within the framework of a pilot program, selected measures will be implemented and their effects will be examined and subsequently verified using surveys. The results will be utilized to derive recommendations for bicycle path maintenance for municipal road authorities.

The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport as part of the National Cycling Plan (NRVP).
