A four-meter-high wind turbine made of bamboo poles was the eye-catcher at this year’s Information Day – anyone entering the Magistrale on campus could not fail to notice the model from the Civil Engineering course, which was a clearly visible sign of the innovative strength, creativity, and sustainability of Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
Around 1200 visitors flocked to the campus in fickle spring weather to get an overview of the degree programs offered by the three Schools of Design, Engineering, and Business, or to ask detailed questions about a degree program they had (almost) already chosen. A diverse agenda awaited the visitors with talks, workshops and sample lectures on highly contemporary topics such as climate-neutral construction and sustainable supply chains, and food and drink were also available at the waffle stand and food trucks in the inner courtyard. Numerous visitors took the opportunity to listen to presentations on the individual degree programs, semester projects, and theses, to explore the library with its wide range of specialized literature and modern learning stations, and to talk to prospective students, students, and professors.
Major interest in portfolio consultation and well-filled auditorium program featuring a live stream
The portfolio consultation offered by the Interior Architecture, Communication Design, and Time-Based Media degree programs was also very popular, and the stage was set for an extensive on-stage program in the auditorium, which was streamed live on YouTube. Here, students and lecturers presented degree programs and current projects from research, teaching, and transfer in moderated talks. The Civil Engineering, Business Administration, and Information Systems degree programs presented the wide range of dual programs available, graduates of the Business Law degree program shared their professional experiences, and with a discussion on A Future Between Digitalization and Sustainability and architectural examples of creative living, the university once again showed that it has its finger on the pulse of the times with its topics.
“Mainz is ‘our’ city, where we really enjoy living and working – our roots in the region are just as much a part of our DNA as our focus on application,” emphasized University President Prof. Dr. Susanne Weissman in her welcome address to the packed auditorium, pointing out the “huge benefit” that awaits students in the coming year: a “compact campus” with short distances, where all three schools are united under one roof and which can become “a bit of a home” for a certain time in their lives.
