Anna Hartung

Who are you and what company do you currently work for? And in what position (your responsibilities)?

My name is Anna Hartung and I was a student in the Master’s in Franco-German Management program from 2017 to 2020. I am currently working as an HR Specialist for Amcor Flexibles, a global company that manufactures packaging of all kinds, including medical devices, coffee, and dairy products. I work for the Business Unit (BU) Food, Beverage and Personal Care (FB&PC), which is part of the Business Group Amcor Flexibles Europe, Middle East and Africa (AFEMEA). Our FB&PC BU includes 28 sites and I am responsible for various tasks together with my colleagues. These include recruiting new colleagues for selected positions and providing internal training. However, my responsibilities also include redesigning the onboarding process for new employees in our business unit.

What is your bachelor’s degree in?

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Languages and Business Administration in the Francophone Cultural Area from the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences in Zwickau.

Why did you choose the Master’s in Franco-German Management?

I wanted to acquire insights into Franco-German relations during my studies and, at the same time, expand my own experience in the Franco-German environment. My goal was to be ready for the Franco-German job market after graduating with a master’s degree and to find a suitable position quickly.

What expectations did you have of the Master’s in Franco-German Management? What makes this degree program unique from your point of view?

The various group activities in both Metz and Mainz, but especially in Metz, strongly fostered student bonding and mutual support in preparing for exams, organizing the Journées Franco-Allemandes (French-German Days), and applying for internships. That is what makes this degree program unique in my eyes.

Is there anything in your studies that has remained particularly memorable for you?

That I made friends for life.

To what extent did your studies and the two required internships help you start your career?

In my opinion, the two integrated practical internships in particular are a great advantage when looking for a job. The practical periods were also a decisive factor in my decision to enroll in the Master’s in Franco-German Management. During my studies, I had the opportunity to gain various valuable experiences in Germany and France, which made it easier for me to start my career. While studying, we worked in Franco-German groups on many projects, which strengthened my intercultural skills while paving and easing my way into a Franco-German work environment.

Have you participated in alumni events as a student? What do you think of the degree program’s alumni network?

I have already participated twice in the Alumni Day, which takes place every year in the winter. The first time I was still part of the Direction AMFA, which organizes the Alumni Day; the second time I participated as an alumna, but virtually due to the pandemic. In my opinion, the personal exchange between alumni and students is particularly important and valuable.
