On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., a literary highlight will take place at the LUX Pavilion. Bartholomäus Grill, a renowned expert on Africa and author, will read from his latest work, titled “Bauernsterben,” drawing particular parallels to the African continent. In his book, he describes the global rise of the agribusiness industry and its devastating consequences for people, animals, and the environment. This book is a powerful call to all of us to radically rethink our agricultural and food systems.
Bartholomäus Grill reported from Africa for nearly four decades as a correspondent for *Die Zeit* and *Der Spiegel*. He has written several books, including the bestseller “Ach, Afrika” (2003), as well as “Um uns die Toten” (2014) and “Wir Herrenmenschen” (2019), all published by Siedler Verlag. In 2006, he was awarded the Egon-Erwin-Kisch Prize for a report on his brother’s suicide. Bartholomäus Grill was born in 1954 in Oberaudorf am Inn. He studied philosophy, sociology, and art history. Today, Grill lives in Cape Town.
