Forum

Forum – The magazine of Mainz University of Applied Sciences

The name of our university magazine says it all: In the “Forum”, every semester we present innovative degree programs and research projects, report on exhibitions and events, provide insights into international activities, and give members of the university and guest authors the opportunity to speak on current societal challenges. Since the fall of 2021, “Forum” has been published in a new layout.

The new issue of our university magazine FORUM has been published at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. The current issue is devoted to the topic of artificial intelligence. The three articles in the main section examine the growing role of AI in everyday university life, sharing perspectives from teaching, research, and creative practices. The articles show how AI is already being used today and the potential and challenges arising from it.

Alongside the featured topic, the magazine presents additional projects from across the university, including biodiversity in urban spaces, architectural designs for a pavilion at Mainz Cemetery, and a project on the digital reputation of companies. The issue also features insights into two unusual professional and artistic careers. One alumnus reports on his work as a crime scene surveyor for the Hesse State Criminal Police Office, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at the precision work involved in forensic investigations. Professor Wolf Gutjahr of the School of Design also discusses what it means to serve as scenographer for this year’s Bayreuth Festival, contributing to the anniversary production of Ring 10010110, in which artificial intelligence is being used for the first time as an image-generating medium.
