Mainz University of Applied Sciences is currently planning to hold the upcoming 2020/2021 winter semester as a hybrid semester—consisting of a mix of online and in-person classes.
Depending on how the pandemic unfolds, we aim to facilitate a gradual return to campus. Due to limited classroom capacity and the need to comply with hygiene and safety measures, the majority of courses will continue to be held online. Priority for in-person instruction will be given in particular to first- and second-semester students in bachelor’s and master’s programs, practical work in workshops and labs, and students in the final phase of their studies.
At this time, we cannot predict how much time you, as a student, will be able to spend on campus during the winter semester. Therefore, we cannot make the decision for you as to whether it is worth renting a room or an apartment in Mainz to be on campus.
We recommend that you carefully weigh the pros and cons of spending the semester in Mainz (such as maintaining contact with fellow students outside the university, proximity to the university when switching between online and in-person formats) and what might speak against it (e.g., entering into a rental commitment that may remain in effect even in the event of another lockdown). With the help of your personal list of pros and cons, you’ll likely find it easier to make your decision.
