High recognition for the Department of Economics at Mainz University of Applied Sciences: Prof. Dr. Sabine Landwehr-Zloch, professor of general business administration specializing in finance, accounting, and controlling, has been awarded the Rhineland-Palatinate Teaching Prize.
The Teaching Award is presented every two years by the Ministry of Science, Continuing Education, and Health. It honors outstanding achievements in higher education teaching and innovative teaching concepts. The award, which comes with a prize of 10,000 euros, is intended to highlight excellent teaching and promote its further development.
“Excellent teaching thrives on people who support students, provide them with guidance, and have faith in their abilities,” emphasizes the president of Mainz University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Katharina Dahm. “This is exactly what Prof. Dr. Landwehr-Zloch stands for. She not only imparts subject-specific knowledge but also empowers her students to think independently, ask questions, and take on responsibility. The fact that this commitment is now being recognized statewide makes us at Mainz University of Applied Sciences very proud.”
The selection of award recipients takes place through a state-wide process conducted by the Higher Education Evaluation Network. Factors considered include the quality of teaching, innovative teaching approaches, and student evaluations.
Since joining Mainz University of Applied Sciences in October 2023, Prof. Dr. Landwehr-Zloch has focused on teaching that combines academic excellence with the promotion of reflective thinking, critical thinking, and independent learning.
“For me, good teaching means guiding students on their individual learning journeys and empowering them to apply their knowledge to new and complex problems.”
In addition to her teaching, she is actively involved in research and knowledge transfer related to innovation, energy infrastructure, and financing issues in the context of the energy and sustainability transition. She is also the spokesperson for the “VORAN” Research College, a joint research and doctoral program between Mainz University of Applied Sciences and the University of Trier for collaborative doctoral studies.
Since the summer semester of 2025, Prof. Dr. Landwehr-Zloch has served as her department’s representative for academic affairs and teaching. In addition, she has served as the deputy equal opportunity officer at Mainz University of Applied Sciences since the summer semester of 2024.
The Department of Business Administration extends its warmest congratulations to Prof. Dr. Sabine Landwehr-Zloch on receiving the Rhineland-Palatinate Teaching Award. The award recognizes outstanding teaching, innovative teaching approaches, and a sustained commitment that extends far beyond the field of business administration and is significant for the entire department.
