The Department of Civil Engineering at Mainz University of Applied Sciences is now called the “Department of Construction and Environment.” This name change better reflects the breadth of the degree programs. This is because the degree programs in the Department of Construction and Environment no longer focus solely on traditional civil engineering but encompass the entire life cycle of buildings and infrastructure. These programs prepare students to respond effectively to challenges such as climate change and demographic shifts.
The addition of “Environment” to the name underscores the department’s commitment to the sustainable construction and operation of real estate and infrastructure. The goal is to raise awareness of environmentally and socially responsible construction through practice-oriented teaching and research and to actively promote the development of sustainable infrastructure.
The following degree programs are already established in the Department of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences:
- Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (B.Eng.)
- Bachelor’s in International Civil Engineering (B.Eng.)
- Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering – Renovation and Retrofit, M.Eng.
- Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering (Construction), B.Eng.
- Bachelor’s in Construction and Real Estate Management / Facilities Management (B.Eng.)
- Master’s in Construction and Real Estate Management / Facilities Management, M.Eng. / M.Sc.
- Bachelor’s in Technical Real Estate Management (Dual Program), B.Eng.
- Master of Engineering in Technical Real Estate Management (M.Eng. / M.Sc.)
In addition, the Construction and Environment department will continue to expand in the upcoming winter semester. Three new degree programs will be introduced:
- Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering (Dual Program), B.Eng.
- Master’s in Industrial Engineering (Construction), M.Eng.
- Part-time Master’s in Infrastructure for Sustainable Neighborhoods, M.Eng. (in cooperation with Bingen University of Applied Sciences)
