More than 3,000 exhibitors, oversized machines, and plenty of innovations: BAUMA in Munich is a real experience—not just for construction professionals. Fifty students majoring in Construction and Environment at Mainz University of Applied Sciences took the opportunity to spend a day exploring the world’s largest construction machinery trade show.
On April 9, 2025, they set off early in the morning by bus for Munich. Upon arrival at the sprawling exhibition grounds, the field trip began with an initial self-guided tour. Exhibitors from around 60 countries showcased the latest machinery, digital technologies, and ideas for the construction of tomorrow.
Three guided booth tours provided special insights:
- PERI showcased modern formwork systems—that is, structures that help shape concrete on construction sites. The focus here was on sustainable and efficient solutions for concrete construction.
- The Wirtgen Group, known for its road construction machinery, impressed with over 40 world premieres—including high-tech vehicles that have become not only larger but also smarter.
- Liebherr presented over 70 exhibits at one of the largest booths at the fair: cranes, construction machinery, and civil engineering technology—an impressive overview of the entire spectrum of construction.
In between, there was time for our own discoveries—such as a visit to Wolffkran, where the latest developments in tower cranes were showcased. In the evening, we headed back to Mainz with many new impressions to take home. For many, it was not only an exciting day but also a glimpse into the future of the construction industry.
