At the end of January, about 35 students from FOS Nierstein, Carl-Zuckmayer-Realschule plus, and Fachoberschule Nierstein visited Mainz University of Applied Sciences. All of them are enrolled in the advanced computer science course for 11th and 12th graders and were interested in the university’s programs in this field.
After a presentation and a sample lecture on the bachelor’s program in Applied Computer Science, they learned from Prof. Dr. Renate Czommer about the bachelor’s program in Geoinformatics and Surveying, as well as the corresponding career prospects.
Afterward, Sogül Polat, a staff member at i3mainz, gave them a tour of the i3mainz laboratories. She showed them the augmented reality sandbox and how the 3D wall works, and explained the importance of 3D scans in the context of cultural heritage. Afterward, they had the opportunity to see the KR 60 HA industrial robot from KUKA and gain insight into the students’ work with the robot.
