Biotech Meetup at Mainz University of Applied Sciences

Strong Networking and Innovative Ideas in Mainz’s Life Sciences Ecosystem

Around 150 participants from biotech and pharmaceutical companies, Mainz University Medical Center, and other key players in Mainz’s life sciences ecosystem gathered at the LUX Pavilion in late March. Mainz University of Applied Sciences hosted the 13th biomindz Life Science Meetup, thereby underscoring its role as a partner in one of Germany’s most dynamic biotech clusters. This cluster is home to companies such as BioNTech, Novo Nordisk, and Schott Pharma, as well as a growing number of innovative startups. The response to the event was extremely positive.

Guests were welcomed by Vice President Prof. Dr. Anett Mehler-Bicher. The interdisciplinary nature of the event was also reflected in the program: architecture graduates from the School of Engineering presented designs for the emerging Life Science Campus Mainz. Prof. Kerstin Molter from the School of Engineering and Prof. Dr. Christian Schäfer from the School of Business played leading roles, collaborating to organize the evening.

Christian Schäfer, Professor of Management in Life Sciences, introduced the “Certificate in Strategic Forecasting Practice in Pharma” (CFP)—an additional qualification offered by the School of Business and certified by the International Institute of Forecasters (IIF), sponsored by biomindz. Bachelor’s students from the first graduating class were present in person and took advantage of the networking opportunities to have initial conversations with industry representatives. The program generated widespread interest. Two biotech startups from the region used the platform to introduce themselves.

As the keynote speaker, Prof. Thomas Thum, co-founder of Cardior Pharmaceuticals GmbH, highlighted new approaches in drug discovery. The founders of CatMedica presented their startup in the medtech sector.
