Mainz University of Applied Sciences Joins the University Alliance for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises
Mainz University of Applied Sciences is a new member of the University Alliance for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, a nationwide network of applied universities that have long-standing, well-established research partnerships with regional companies and train their future specialists and executives through practice-oriented academic programs. “Mainz University of Applied Sciences is pleased to be able to contribute its extensive experience in the areas of research and corporate partnerships, development, and knowledge transfer to the Alliance. Mainz University of Applied Sciences can look back on many years of experience in collaborating with small and medium-sized enterprises. In work-integrated degree programs alone, it maintains over 600 partnerships with SMEs, primarily in the business community of the Rhine-Main region. Thanks to its successes in the field of knowledge and technology transfer, Mainz University of Applied Sciences is also exceptionally well-suited for membership in the alliance. The Institute for Spatial Information and Measurement Technology (i3mainz), one of a total of eight in-house institutes, enjoys an international reputation and is regularly approached by industry networks. Together with SMEs, the university carries out innovative R&D projects, most of which are publicly funded. Several EU-funded doctoral projects serve to develop innovations with SMEs while simultaneously training the next generation of researchers. Through the interdisciplinary robotics laboratory, the innovative research area “Digital Planning and Manufacturing” for customized interior design—also in collaboration with SMEs—has been established. The University Alliance for SMEs sees itself as a network linking industry and academia and represents the interests of application-oriented universities in their role as partners to SMEs vis-à-vis policymakers and society. The universities in the alliance base their activities on a concept of science that is complemented by the idea of knowledge transfer. The goal of the application-oriented universities united in the Alliance is to serve as bridge-builders between academia and the surrounding economic, social, cultural, and political developments.
