On September 16, 2019, the exhibition “2029 Federal Horticultural Show. Our BUGA Begins Now” opened at Ehrenbreitstein Fortress in Koblenz. It showcases the exhibition concept for the Federal Horticultural Show in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley and the associated initiatives to modernize the region’s infrastructure.
Also on display are the results of the “Hüttchen” workshop from the Architecture program at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. Under the direction of Prof. Kerstin Molter, students developed minimalist dwellings during the 2019 summer semester as tourist lodging options for the 2029 Federal Horticultural Show. The Rhineland-Palatinate Development Agency served as a cooperation partner.
The objective: The “Hüttchen” are to be prefabricated and energy-self-sufficient, designed to blend harmoniously with the landscape and the World Heritage Site. Possible locations include the side valleys of the Middle Rhine Valley.
During the workshop, seven designs for cabins in the side valley of Bacharach were developed, among which the “TINY ROCK” concept by students Vanessa May and Giuliano de Luca emerged as the best design.
