CHE University Rankings 2021

Computer Science Takes the Top Spot

In a nationwide comparison of academic conditions, Mainz University of Applied Sciences ranks among the top institutions in the field of computer science—according to the results of the latest CHE University Ranking, which was published on May 4. Students in the Geoinformatics and Surveying program particularly praise the organization of the program as well as facilities such as classrooms, IT infrastructure, and workstation equipment. Students also highlight the excellent connections to the professional field.
With approximately 120,000 students surveyed and more than 300 universities and universities of applied sciences/Fachhochschulen (HAW), as well as dual universities and vocational academies, the CHE University Ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed comparison of higher education institutions in the German-speaking world.
The ranking surveys current students about their academic conditions, both in general and with regard to specific criteria such as academic advising, support during their studies or for studying abroad, the range of courses offered, the organization of the program, and exams. Career guidance services, the academic or practical relevance of the programs, facilities, library resources, and IT infrastructure are also evaluated. This year, the following disciplines were examined: biochemistry, biology/life sciences, chemistry, geography, earth sciences, computer science, mathematics, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physics, political science, sports/sports science, and dentistry.
“After a year of exceptional circumstances in schools, there is concern that starting college this year could be made more difficult by gaps in instruction caused by the pandemic. However, universities in Rhineland-Palatinate offer their new students excellent support at the start of their studies,” explains Frank Ziegele, Executive Director of the CHE Center for Higher Education Development, regarding the ranking results.
