Second-semester students in the Architecture B.Eng. program will design and build a 1:1 scale model during the summer semester of 2024 as part of the Construction 2 module. The goal is to build a wooden pavilion for the university campus, with a focus on recycled materials, complex wooden structures, and working and coordinating as a large group.
The project is student-led and is supported by Prof. Thomas Mrokon, Joel Jöbgen, Miriam Weckerle, and Jonathan Haber.
Planning and construction are divided into four phases:
- Wooden Joints
- Design with VR headsets
- Planning and digitization
- Construction
Work is in full swing in the workshop tent on the Holzstraße campus. Various wooden nodes for the pavilion have already been created there using cable ties, wire, and 3D-printed connectors.
In Phase 2, the students immersed themselves in the virtual world and designed individual pavilions using VR headsets provided by the university.
We are currently in the third phase of the project and are about to begin construction.
