Research Center for Collaborative Doctoral Programs in the Department of Economics
On December 5, 2018, the Department of Economics held its third Research Seminar. During this event, doctoral students presented the current status of their collaborative doctoral research projects. In addition to the presenters, all members and master’s students of the Department of Economics were invited. The audience received a detailed overview of current research activities in the Department. To allow sufficient time for the presentations and a subsequent discussion, one hour was allocated for each presentation.
The doctoral candidates used this opportunity to discuss their research questions with the audience and to gather detailed feedback. Using concrete examples, the master’s students gained an initial, practice-oriented insight into doctoral studies and were able to ask questions about this topic to both the doctoral candidates and their supervising professors.
A total of three doctoral candidates reported on the following dissertation projects:
- Mr. Tobias Simon: Validation of the Innovation Potential of Virtual Research Environments (Prof. Dr. Sven Pagel in cooperation with the University of Koblenz-Landau)
- Ms. Michaela Hausdorf: The Influence of Communities and Founder Identities on the Innovation and Startup Process (Prof. Dr. Oliver Mauroner in cooperation with the University of Trier)
- Mr. Christian Bremser: How Companies Get Started with Big Data—Strategies and Influencing Factors (Prof. Dr. Gunther Piller in cooperation with JGU Mainz)
The final feedback on the event was very positive from all participants. The master’s students particularly highlighted the in-depth insight into specific doctoral projects as well as the direct exchange with the doctoral candidates. The doctoral candidates found the academic discussions and the detailed feedback to be very helpful. It was also insightful that the three doctoral candidates reported on different phases (beginning, middle, and completion) of their doctoral work. Due to the positive response, plans are in place to hold a fourth research colloquium in the summer semester of 2019.
