Success at WorldSkills in Shanghai

Chiara Lammenett places seventh in Digital Construction

Chiara Lammenett of Mainz University of Applied Sciences returned from the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai on September 29, 2026, with an impressive result. The 21-year-old International Civil Engineering student placed seventh in the “Digital Construction” category. She was also awarded a Medallion for Excellence for her performance.

WorldSkills took place in Shanghai from September 22 to 27. More than 70 countries were represented at the international competition, where young professionals demonstrated their skills in more than 60 disciplines. Mainz’s Lammenett was the only participant from Rhineland-Palatinate.

The “Digital Construction” competition focused on the digital planning and modeling of buildings. Over four days of competition, participants regularly received new assignments that they had to complete on a computer under strict time constraints. A total of 18 young professionals competed against one another in this discipline.

For Lammenett, participating in WorldSkills was the culmination of several years of preparation. She entered the competition through the Rhineland-Palatinate Championships, where she placed third. By winning the German championship in “Digital Construction” earlier this year, she qualified for the national team, and with that, a place at the WorldSkills competition in Shanghai.

“The competitors were extremely closely matched in terms of performance, reflecting the competition’s high international standard. Chiara Lammenett successfully held her own against international competitors in this demanding environment, earning an outstanding seventh-place finish. She ranks among the world’s top young talents in digital building modeling. Her seventh-place finish on the international stage is a remarkable achievement and an impressive demonstration of her technical expertise, precision, and excellent command of digital planning and modeling methods,” says Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Freiboth, professor of Construction Management and head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
