On June 19, 2023, a promising kickoff meeting for the “Mainzer Energiehaus” project, led by Professor Thomas Giel, took place at the LUX Pavilion. Representatives from Mainz University of Applied Sciences, the Bingen Technology Transfer Office, the Rhineland-Palatinate Energy Agency, the City of Mainz, Mainzer Stadtwerke, and the engineering firm Zimmer met for an initial meeting and discussion on the implementation possibilities of this groundbreaking project.
The goal of the “Mainzer Energiehaus” project is to highlight opportunities for retrofitting heating systems in existing buildings. By constructing a demonstration container featuring various renewable energy systems, the project aims to provide information and solutions for homeowners, building owners, and tradespeople, enabling them to respond to the new demands of the energy market and contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about heat pumps and other technologies.
Mainz University of Applied Sciences is leading the project and planning the construction of the demonstration container, which will vividly showcase technologies such as heat pumps, photovoltaics, and more. In addition, concepts for connecting buildings to local district heating systems and existing heating networks will be presented.
To dispel uncertainties regarding the use of heat pumps in existing buildings and to disseminate knowledge about these and other technologies, the “Mainzer Energiehaus” project serves as an important source of information. The demonstration container will be set up either on the campus of Mainz University of Applied Sciences or at another temporary location.
An additional resource provided by the project is a comparison chart that evaluates various heating systems in terms of their cost-effectiveness. This is intended to assist homeowners in selecting new heating technology.
With the successful kickoff meeting, the “Mainzer Energiehaus” is well on its way to becoming a pioneering initiative for sustainable building heating. With this project, Mainz University of Applied Sciences is taking an important step toward achieving climate neutrality and invites all interested parties to experience the future of building heating firsthand.
