Prof. Dr. Susanne Weissman, the president-elect of Mainz University of Applied Sciences, received her certificate of appointment for her new position on February 13, 2020, from Minister of Science Prof. Dr. Konrad Wolf. Susanne Weissman was elected to the position by the Senate of Mainz University of Applied Sciences on July 10, 2019, and will assume office on March 1, 2020, succeeding Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerhard Muth.
“I am delighted to take over the leadership of a young, dynamic university that is very well positioned within the educational landscape. I would like to build something new in Mainz while also strengthening what has already proven successful. One of the major challenges of the future is digitalization, which should be critically examined—especially at universities—and sensibly implemented for the benefit of all involved. With the prospect of physically consolidating all university departments on a single campus, Mainz University of Applied Sciences also has the opportunity to further sharpen its profile and expand interdisciplinary collaboration,” explained Prof. Dr. Susanne Weissman during the handover ceremony.
After completing her teacher training for elementary and secondary schools, Susanne Weissman studied psychology at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, where she subsequently earned her doctorate. She initially worked as a freelance psychotherapist and management consultant. Since 2004, Susanne Weissman has taught at the Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences in Nuremberg. There, she has served as vice president since 2008 and was responsible for the areas of human resources development, university development, digitalization strategy, and continuing education.
