At the start of the 2026 summer semester, Mainz University of Applied Sciences welcomed its new students to the three departments of Design, Technology, and Business. The events not only provided information about the programs but also offered an opportunity to get to know one another and network.
On Monday, March 16, approximately 180 first-semester students from the Engineering and Design departments were welcomed for the last time at the Holzstraße campus. The event, organized by the General Student Advising Office, featured musical accompaniment by the university’s big band. During the official portion of the program, Prof. Dr. Katharina Dahm, president of the university, and the deans of the two departments welcomed the new students. Prior to the event, students had the chance to explore key service and advisory offices at an information fair—including the General Student Advising Office, the Career Center, the Office for Equal Opportunity, IYPA, and the AStA.
In the School of Business, approximately 250 first-semester students began their bachelor’s and master’s programs, including numerous international students. In the auditorium, President Dahm welcomed the new students with a vivid example: a glass filled with tennis balls, pebbles, and sand illustrated how important it is to focus on the essentials. At the same time, she encouraged them to take an active role in shaping their student life.
Hans-Christoph Reiss, Dean of the School of Business, also welcomed the first-year students and emphasized the guiding principle “We Are Business.” In addition to academic skills, he highlighted analytical thinking, teamwork, and a sense of responsibility as key factors for success.
During the orientation weeks, the new students get to know their departments, the campus, and key support services, and make their first connections.
