To mark its 25th anniversary, Mainz University of Applied Sciences is making its presence felt in the scientific community. In the cross-media special issue “Forschungswelten” (Worlds of Research), published on February 25, in which *Die Zeit* showcases outstanding research locations, the university is featured as one of 75 “Future Hubs of Science” with several flagship projects.
By applying digital technologies to the study of cultural heritage, Mainz University of Applied Sciences has established a transdisciplinary research area that is unique among universities of applied sciences in Germany. The scope of this research area, which is the focus of the ZEIT publication, ranges from the collaborative project “The Cultural Center of the Sun God in Heliopolis (Egypt)” to “#digitanz – Digitality and Dance in Cultural Education” to a research project on the three “Schum Cities”—Mainz, Worms, and Speyer—in which these cities are recreated in a virtual research environment.
Four additional research projects from all three departments are presented in online articles in the ZEIT special issue.
