- In another video, the four panelists answer the question: “How does society benefit from digitalization?”
What kind of society do we want to live in? – This question was at the heart of the large-scale “Society 2030” project, which was launched by the Rhineland-Palatinate Future Initiative (ZIRP) in 2016. In this project, over 200 experts from Rhineland-Palatinate developed a vision for the year 2030 of a society characterized by solidarity, justice, and participation.
The president of Mainz University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Susanne Weissman, was—alongside Stefanie Böttcher (Director of the Kunsthalle Mainz) and Dr. Sabine Nikolaus (Country Manager for Germany at Boehringer Ingelheim Deutschland GmbH), one of three representatives from academia, business, and culture invited to the concluding panel discussion with Minister-President Malu Dreyer. In her closing remarks at the end of the discussion, she emphasized that society “will only benefit from digitalization if education and the acquisition of skills are guaranteed for everyone.”
Regarding coexistence in Rhineland-Palatinate, the four panelists agreed that openness is a cornerstone of living in diversity. Minister-President Malu Dreyer emphasized: “We are a state in the heart of Europe. When we talk about visions for the future, I would like to remind everyone of the beacon we represent in Europe with regard to our liberal values.”
As part of the “Society 2030” project, concrete visions for the future and measures were developed specifically for Rhineland-Palatinate on the topics of family, generations, diversity, health and care, housing, livelihoods, political engagement and participation, education and media, as well as culture. These culminate in the “Code 2030”: principles, recommendations, and measures intended to contribute to the active shaping of our society.
