Prof. Dr. iur. habil. Katharina Dahm will assume the position of Equal Opportunity Officer at Mainz University of Applied Sciences starting in September 2022. In this role, she aims to “combat digital violence among students, establish an anti-discrimination policy, set up a complaints office in accordance with the General Equal Treatment Act, develop an equality plan for Mainz University of Applied Sciences, and promote pay transparency.”
Her belief in human equality, her interest in politics, and her expertise in law—particularly labor law—motivated the local politician to apply for the position. It is a role she knows very well: She previously served as the equal opportunity officer at Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU) in Department 03 (Law). “Back then, I developed a plan to promote research by women that is still in effect today,” reports the 42-year-old from Bad Kreuznach. She studied at JGU and also earned her doctorate there. She wrote her dissertation on family discrimination in labor law and published her habilitation thesis on the law of marriage contracts.
Since 2018, Katharina Dahm has been a professor of labor law, private commercial law, and social law in the Department of Economics. She also directs the LL.M. in Business Law—Labor Law and Human Resources Management program and serves on the university’s senate.
