Harbert Book Prize Awarded

Three students majoring in Geoinformatics and Surveying were awarded the Harbert Book Prize at the DVW’s 2023 annual conference in Boppard on May 11. Markus Schaffert also reported on the results of the RAFVINIERT project conducted by i3mainz.

On May 11, the 2023 Annual Scientific Conference of the Society for Geodesy, Geoinformation, and Land Management ( DVW e.V.) took place at the Stadthalle in Boppard. As part of this event, the top graduates of the 2022 geoinformatics and surveying classes were awarded the Harbert Book Prize, with some recipients receiving their awards in absentia.

  • Janine Kelkel wrote her bachelor’s thesis on the accuracy of the Saarland Ground Movement Cadastre in comparison with reference data . She was advised by Fredie Kern.
  • For his master’s thesis,Lukas Haas focused on the development of algorithms for the automated segmentation and approximation of point clouds . He was advised by Renate Czommer.
  • Hans Joachim Peter completed the part-time master’s program in Geoinformatics with a thesis on the evaluation of solar potential on agricultural land using LiDAR data . He was supervised by Hossein Arefi.

Markus Schaffert presented findings from the i3mainz project RAFVINIERT at the annual conference. In his presentation, he outlined the methods used in RAFVINIERT to develop digital tools that visualize demographic shifts in aging single-family residential areas. The goal of the project is to provide municipalities with digital tools that enable them to monitor demographic developments in single-family home neighborhoods and to identify and address changes at an early stage.
