Welcome, Florian Schill!

In the summer semester of 2023, Florian Schill began his studies in the field of geoinformatics and surveying and at i3mainz.

The Department of Geoinformatics and Surveying and i3mainz extend a very warm welcome to Prof. Dr. Florian Schill at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. Florian Schill will focus primarily on laser scanning for engineering geodesy applications, such as the non-contact monitoring of structures like bridges, wind turbines, and noise barriers.

This topic is increasingly coming into the public spotlight due to the growing number of infrastructure structures in need of renovation. At the same time, there is a rising demand for efficient measurement methods and appropriately trained specialists who will need to address such issues more frequently in the future.

“I would like to address my key research topics using a research-based and, ideally, interdisciplinary approach. That’s why I’m looking forward to collaborating with colleagues even beyond the fields of geoinformatics and surveying,” said Florian Schill.

Most recently, Schill, a native of Schwäbisch Hall, held a postdoctoral position at TU Darmstadt, where he also earned his Ph.D. on the topic of monitoring structural systems using profile scanners.
