Following the successful inaugural event in 2018, the second Career Day was held on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the School of Business at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. More than 40 exhibitors from the region were on hand to answer students’ questions about their companies. This event was very well received not only by students in the School of Business, but also by numerous students from the School of Engineering.
Students took full advantage of the opportunity to speak directly with company representatives right on the Mainz University of Applied Sciences campus and to learn about job openings, internships, and the possibility of collaborative thesis projects. “I’d like to write my thesis in the field of logistics soon, and I was able to make some good contacts here,” said a student in the Bachelor’s program in Business Administration, praising the event. Company Day was so well-received that between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., there was a bustling atmosphere in the basement of the Magistrale and the auditorium. Anyone looking to take a brief break from the hustle and bustle could browse over 200 job postings from participating companies on the more than 18-meter-long “Job Wall” or enjoy a cup of popcorn at the Department of Economics’ booth.
The exhibitors also benefited greatly: “We were able to reach a lot of students,” says Torsten Groß of Seibert Media. “We were also able to expand our network with colleagues and interested parties,” he adds, immediately signing up for the 3rd Day of Companies. In addition, the event offered company representatives further program items highlighting opportunities for collaboration with Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
A special speaker’s corner was set up in front of the auditorium for this purpose. Prof. Dr. Sven Fischbach, director of the dual Bachelor’s program in Business Administration, opened the series of presentations with a talk on the dual study program at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. Thomas Gers also spoke about the Career Center at Mainz University of Applied Sciences, and Vice Dean Prof. Dr. Gunther Piller discussed opportunities for applied research within companies. The Dean of the Department of Economics, Prof. Dr. Anett Mehler-Bicher, concluded the lecture series with a presentation on opportunities for collaboration on thesis projects.
Thus, the second edition of the Corporate Day was much more than just a chance to collect giveaways from exhibitors. Rather, the fair is evolving into an important event for strengthening the network between companies and the Department of Economics.
