As a global manufacturer of specialty glass, SCHOTT operates in a highly energy-intensive industry with a large carbon footprint. Dr. Frank Heinricht, Chairman of the Executive Board, presented various ways in which SCHOTT can become climate-neutral by 2030 during the second M³ lecture of the 2023 summer semester.
Despite the Pentecost break, good weather, and upcoming exams, the auditorium at Mainz University of Applied Sciences was well attended. Several external guests with a keen interest in sustainability were also able to ask Dr. Heinricht their questions directly. To achieve its goal of climate neutrality, SCHOTT is focusing primarily on green electricity and green hydrogen. As a result, CO2 emissions were reduced by 60% within two years—despite an increase in production. SCHOTT is also considering establishing its own nature reserve to offset CO2 emissions.
