New Acting Professor: Dr.-Ing. Oliver Kemmann Teaches Business Informatics
The Department of Economics welcomes Dr.-Ing. Oliver Kemmann as its new adjunct professor of Business Informatics. A doctor of engineering, he brings extensive experience from academia, business, and entrepreneurship.
After studying mechanical engineering in Aachen, Kemmann founded the digital and innovation consulting firm robotspaceship in Mainz in the late 1990s while working on his doctorate. Through numerous projects, he has supported companies in their digital transformation processes. His conviction: “Impact is created when strategy, craftsmanship, and clear communication come together—in day-to-day operations, not in an ivory tower.”
In his teaching, Kemmann emphasizes hands-on experience and active participation: fewer slides, more doing. “I come from the engine room: a Ph.D., starting a company, lots of hands-on experience, storytelling. Today, I translate that into teaching that sparks curiosity and delivers results.” For him, topics like artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital ambidexterity are part of everyday life in modern business informatics.
Interdisciplinary collaboration within the university is particularly important to him: “The future is a team sport,” says Kemmann. He invites students and colleagues to contribute ideas—for example, for joint projects, guest lectures, or live case studies.
In addition to his teaching, Dr. Kemmann serves as chair of the IHK Digital Committee and as a member of the DIHK’s AI working group. In this way, he strengthens the connection between the university and the professional world and brings valuable insights from the business sector into his teaching.
