New Inspiration from Uganda

Prof. Dr. Stéphane Timmer Strengthens University Partnerships in Uganda

As part of the existing partnerships with Kyambogo University in Kampala and Mbarara University of Science and Technology (Mbarara), Prof. Dr. Stéphane Timmer from the Department of Economics traveled to Uganda.

During his stay, he participated in a teaching exchange and gave guest lectures on the topics of regional economic integration, negotiations, and Research Methods. Prof. Dr. Timmer received a warm welcome at both Kyambogo University and Mbarara University. Special thanks go to Gracious Ampumuza and Sarah Nabachwa, who provided significant on-site support for the exchange.

In addition, the visit provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions with faculty members and staff, including the deans of both universities. A particular highlight was the meeting with a group of master’s students who will begin their exchange semester in Mainz at the end of September, as well as with David Robatian, a master’s student from Mainz who is currently completing an exchange semester at Kyambogo University.

Prof. Dr. Timmer learned from the faculty members that students returning from Mainz are always perceived as “changed individuals”—more self-confident and inspired by their experiences abroad. This feedback impressively underscores the lasting impact of the department’s international exchange programs.
