Orientation Week for the Construction Program

"Building Domino" Station on the Tour d’ING

A warm welcome to all first-year students!

To help our new students in the Department of Civil Engineering feel at home quickly, we held our orientation week (March 13–17, 2023) before classes began. A 5-day introductory program for aspiring civil engineers to settle in, make new connections, and explore their options.

We kicked things off with an official welcome from the university administration and the civil engineering faculty. In addition to key information about starting and organizing their studies, our “O-Week” primarily featured activities and workshops designed to get students actively involved—with the goal of helping them get to know their new classmates and get a taste of the diverse fields of civil engineering. During our “Tour d’ING,” everyone got to take a look inside our department’s labs and work together to solve problems. Our “newcomers” then demonstrated just how much engineering potential our first-year students already possess during the bridge-building workshop “Off to New Shores.” The results were impressive.

We’d like to once again extend a warm welcome to our “newcomers” and wish them a great start to their first semester!
