On July 7, Philipp Aigner, a former research assistant in the Department of Economics, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation titled “Essays on the Scenario-Based Measurement of Financial Risks” and was awarded his doctorate.
Dr. Aigner presented his dissertation before his doctoral advisors, Prof. Dr. Sebastian Schlütter of Mainz University of Applied Sciences and Prof. Dr. Andrej Gill of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, as well as two additional reviewers, his family, and friends. In his dissertation, Philipp Aigner developed a novel method for identifying stress scenarios that can support management decisions at various levels through the efficient communication of key risks. “In addition, the approach offers opportunities for validating models, improving regulatory requirements, and efficiently measuring systemic risks,” he adds. Prof. Schlütter emphasizes that Philipp Aigner’s research has achieved great success and has been accepted for presentation at several highly competitive academic conferences.
During his time in the Department of Economics, Philipp, as a doctoral candidate, delved deeply into the world of quantitative methods and their application in the context of the insurance and financial sectors. Prior to that, he had successfully completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics, with a minor in actuarial science, at the University of Regensburg.
Today, Philipp works in the insurance consulting division at zeb consulting.
