A total of three out of seven “Design Awards” for outstanding work and eight out of 13 “Honorable Mentions” in recognition of remarkable work went to Mainz University of Applied Sciences at this year’s Rhineland-Palatinate Communication Design Award, marking a major success for the university. The range of topics covered by the projects extends from the traditional fields of editorial and corporate design, through spatial communication, to research projects in the “Design Studies & Research” category.
The eight-member jury selected 20 finalists from 152 submitted design projects, who received their awards during a ceremony on November 21.
The award-winning works are on display through November 29 as part of an exhibition in the foyer of the Investitions- und Strukturbank in Mainz.

To participate in the competition, entrants must have a connection to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Eligible projects include those carried out for a client in Rhineland-Palatinate or creative work developed by service providers in Rhineland-Palatinate.
Students and technical school students who are currently studying or have previously studied at a university or technical school in Rhineland-Palatinate, or who are residents of Rhineland-Palatinate, may participate in the competition in the “Design Talents” category. Research papers, theses, and dissertations completed since January 2016 at universities (diploma, bachelor’s, and master’s theses) or technical colleges are also eligible.
The Rhineland-Palatinate Design Award is sponsored by the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Economics, Transportation, Agriculture, and Viticulture. The competition is organized by descom – Designforum Rhineland-Palatinate.
