Girls’ Day 2025 with Roberta

Girls’ Day 2025 at Mainz University of Applied Sciences: A complete success for young STEM talents!

On April 3, 2025, Mainz University of Applied Sciences once again opened its doors for the annual Girls’ Day, offering girls from the 5th grade onwards an exciting insight into the fascinating world of STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The aim of this nationwide day of action is to encourage young women to explore training and degree programs in areas in which women are currently still underrepresented. The intention is to break down any reservations, fears, or stereotypes when choosing a degree program or career and to discover hidden talents–a cause that Mainz University of Applied Sciences is very committed to supporting.

One particular highlight of the day was the popular workshop “Roberta – build your own Lego Mindstorm robot”. Under expert guidance, girls aged 10 to 12 were able to give their creativity free rein and immerse themselves in the exciting world of robotics. They learned how a robot navigates, recognizes obstacles, and reacts to its environment. The participants enthusiastically constructed and programmed their own Lego Mindstorm robots to solve tricky tasks. It was impressive to see the speed and inventiveness with which the young talents mastered the challenges.

Girls’ Day at Mainz University of Applied Sciences was a success and once again demonstrated the great interest and curiosity of young girls in the STEM fields. It is a matter close to our hearts to introduce girls to the diverse and exciting opportunities in science and technology and to inspire them for a future in these promising fields.

A big thank you to Prof. Dr. Anett Mehler-Bicher and all the dedicated helpers who made this inspiring day possible and an unforgettable experience for the participants!

We are already looking forward to the next Girls’ Day and to welcoming many inquisitive young girls to Mainz University of Applied Sciences again!
