“Improving and Simplifying the Exchange of Social Security Data in Europe” was the topic of a parliamentary breakfast hosted yesterday morning by Gaby Bischoff, an SPD member of the European Parliament.
There was a lively discussion of the study on this topic presented by Prof. Dr. Manfred Walser and Dipl. Jur. Anneliese Kärcher of Mainz University of Applied Sciences, as well as the subsequent remarks by the Director-General of the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs, and Inclusion, Joost Korte, regarding the European Commission’s efforts to bring about a reform of the European Social Security Regulation during the current legislative term. During the discussion, participating members of the European Parliament, representatives of the upcoming Spanish EU Council Presidency, and European and German social partners—including SOKA-BAU—emphasized the need, on the one hand, to reduce the bureaucracy involved in the exchange of social data through digitization and, at the same time, to strengthen worker protection through more reliable data and improved controls.
The study by Prof. Dr. Manfred Walser and Dipl. Jur. Anneliese Kärcher was funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation and will soon be published in its “Working Paper Forschungsförderung” series.”
