UN/SEEN: Launch Website

News from the Research Project

Women lack visibility. This is also true in the history of graphic design—even today. While the achievements of men are well documented, even finding fragmentary information about female designers requires extensive research. UN/SEEN aims to bridge a gap in the German-speaking world and shine a spotlight on women in graphic design between 1865 and 1919 (before the Bauhaus). By combing through archives, creating or expanding Wikipedia articles, and organizing a symposium with contemporary female typographers, we are creating this visibility and discussing the demands for greater equality made by a new generation of female designers. The website also serves as a platform for ongoing documentation, networking, and an online archive (under construction).
