"Wanderlust" by Jasmin Becela won at the first TonFlimmern Festival
“Wanderlust” is an animated music video by Jasmin Becela for the band SIR TOBY and was screened at seven festivals this year. The bachelor’s thesis was supervised by Prof. Anja Stöffler. The TonFlimmern Festival honors music videos and took place for the first time this year at the Lindentheater in Geisenheim in the Rheingau region. It was launched by the “Besser-als-nix” festival team in collaboration with Woody T. Herner (Dropout Films).

Cut loose from the familiar, you set out into the unknown to learn what fear is. A ghostly forest teeming with unknown creatures opens up before you and swallows you whole. You stumble from one danger into the next: Chaos whirls you through highs and lows, takes you on a journey through all the elements, and blurs the lines between good and evil. Only to realize that, in the end, you’ve come back to yourself. Because it’s only “in the wilderness that you come alive.”
The music video for the song “Wanderlust (Into The Wild)” by the band SIR TOBY abstractly visualizes the process of breaking away from home and the associated feelings, fears, and inner turmoil that are part of growing up. The music video combines film with 2D animation. The scenes in the narrative portion were shot in a photo studio against a green screen and later integrated into a fully illustrated and animated 2D world.
