With the “WE ORANGE THE WORLD (II)” campaign, the Interior Architecture and Communication Design departments at Mainz University of Applied Sciences are once again participating in the international Orange Days this year. From November 25 through December 10, the United Nations is raising awareness worldwide about violence against women and girls, as well as human rights violations.
On November 25, 2025—the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women—interdisciplinary student teams from Mainz University of Applied Sciences, led by Prof. Kirstin Arndt, Professor of Free Design, and Prof. Wolf Gutjahr, Professor of Scenography and Foundations of Design, will organize a day of action at the university’s three campuses (Holzstraße, Wallstraße, and the Lucy-Hillebrand-Straße campus), at the LUX Pavilion of Mainz University of Applied Sciences, at the Haus des Erinnerns, and in public spaces throughout downtown Mainz. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of forms of violence and to highlight ways to get involved and show solidarity.
The project’s visibility is achieved through numerous creative contributions by the students, including costumes, objects, banners, posters, flyers, stickers, reusable bags, whistles, beer coasters, social media posts, videos, and content for the digital displays of Mainzer Mobilität. A publication about the campaign, designed by the students, will be released in January 2026.
A protest march through Mainz’s Old Town will take place on November 25, starting at 1:30 p.m., from the cafeteria on Holzstraße via Augustinerstraße, Leichhof, Höfchen, Gutenbergplatz, and Ludwigstraße to the LUX. Further performative and installation-based interventions will take place there from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The day will conclude with a panel discussion and audience Q&A at LUX (6:00–7:30 p.m.) in cooperation with the Equality Team at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. Under the title “Violence Through Words—How Patriarchal Structures Operate on the Internet,” experts from academia, law, media education, and politics will discuss digital violence and its effects.
