Wikidata at Girls' Day 2024

As part of Girls' Day 2024, 13 female students from the region visited Mainz University of Applied Sciences and the Department of Applied Computer Science and Geodesy. Franziska Klemstein introduced the visitors to the world of Wikidata.

After a guided tour of Mainz University of Applied Sciences—including the roof of the Mess building and the laboratories of the Department of Applied Computer Science and Geodesy—led by Julian Stockemer, Franziska Klemstein took the visitors on a journey through the free and open knowledge database Wikidata, part of Wikipedia. With the support of Donata Gerhards, she showed them various methods for searching specifically for monuments in Mainz and effectively navigating the vast amounts of data.

In the second part, the girls learned how to create new data entries and add information to existing ones to improve and expand the database. They also discussed various ways to apply this knowledge to carry out exciting projects.
We’re so glad you joined us! We had a lot of fun—we hope you did, too!
