A good 250 first-year students have begun their studies at the School of Business at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. They are enrolling in bachelor’s programs such as Business Administration, Business Law, and International Business, as well as in master’s programs such as Labor Law & Human Resource Management and Management. Among them are numerous international students who have come to Mainz to pursue their studies.
At the start of the 2026 summer semester, President Prof. Dr. Katharina Dahm welcomed the new students in the auditorium. Using a glass filled with tennis balls, pebbles, and sand, she vividly illustrated what really matters in life: focusing on the truly important things and not letting oneself be distracted by trivialities. At the same time, she encouraged the students to consciously unwind, enjoy spending time together, and actively shape their student life.
Afterward, the Dean of the School of Business, Prof. Dr. Hans-Christoph Reiss, also welcomed the first-year students. He centered his remarks on the motto “We Are Business” and emphasized that, in addition to subject-specific knowledge, analytical thinking, teamwork, digital skills, and a sense of responsibility are particularly crucial for future professional success. He also highlighted that opportunities often arise unexpectedly—it is important to be prepared and to seize them.
During Freshman Orientation Week, the new students get to know the School, its support services, and the campus. At the same time, they have the opportunity to network with one another. Information about academic studies, languages, and exams is also an important part of the week.
Dual-track and work-integrated students began their studies in early February.
With the start of their studies, the new students become part of the Department of Economics community—in keeping with the motto “We Are Economics.”
