Visual Business Analytics
As part of this option, you will delve deeply into the use of visual analytics to explore relationships in data and prepare key insights for management decisions. The focus is on working with the software Tableau, one of the leading tools for working visually with data, which does not require any programming knowledge.
You will learn how to work with the software in structured training sessions and subsequently work on a business case study. The final result of your work will be the creation of an interactive dashboard using the software.
Today’s corporate world is characterized by an increasing abundance of internally and externally available data that must be taken into account with regard to operational and strategic decisions. Software tools for the visual analysis of data facilitate the consolidation, analysis, and presentation of relevant information. The ability to explore data independently is becoming more and more important, especially for non-technical employees, as it allows them to use data independently of IT departments and to quickly incorporate relevant conclusions into decisions.
An interview with your lecturer, Professor Dr. Christian Au
Why are you teaching this specific option?
The ability to quickly understand data and use it for decision-making is steadily becoming one of the most important skills for managers.
For non-technical employees, visual tools are especially helpful, enabling them to process data analytically without programming knowledge.
Tableau is a very intuitive and powerful tool for these uses, and it is employed in virtually all DAX companies.
What is your motivation for introducing your subject to students?
From my own experience, I know that graduates from business degree programs who are just starting out often have a hard time with the topic of data analysis. The visual work with data, however, offers a very low-threshold introduction and shows how much fun analyses can be.
How would you describe your teaching style in three words?
Structured, interactive, hands-on.
