Students' Judgement in Academic Writing under AI Conditions (doctoral project)
The doctoral project at Paderborn University (supervisor: Prof. Dr. Ingrid Scharlau) examines how students develop their judgement when writing with AI. Rather than asking whether AI should be permitted in higher education, it focuses on what students must be able to do that AI cannot reliably do: frame a problem precisely, judge relevance, appraise sources, and take responsibility for their own position. From this, didactic design principles are reconstructed for learning environments in which AI challenges thinking rather than replacing it. The work connects writing studies, educational psychology, and the philosophy of education.
